Marie is a Brooklyn-born Italian American who has been cooking since before she could walk. She believes strongly that you should be able to get a great sandwich and welcoming service experience even on the shortest of lunch breaks. You can often find her behind the counter at lunch rush, with a big smile, and a noticeable love for people and hospitality.
Chef Ryan Smith is Executive Chef at New York Vintners, one of Manhattan's leading wine and food education centers in Tribeca. Matt & Marie's founders met Chef Ryan at one of his sold-out artisan sandwich and wine pairing classes, and realized he shared their vision and passion for creating sandwiches with integrity. The founders teamed up quickly with Chef Ryan to create a signature menu of sandwiches that hit on all five flavor profiles in every bite: sweet, salty, bitter, sour and umami. After months of working together, the team developed the signature sandwiches we hope you will enjoy today and for years to come.
Chef Ryan received his formal culinary training at the Art Institute of Washington, where he earned an Associate of Arts degree in Culinary Arts. He has worked in some of the Washington DC’s finest restaurants, from Chef Roberto Donna’s flagship restaurant, Galileo, to Fahrenheit Restaurant, located in the 5-star, boutique Ritz-Carlton Georgetown hotel.
